The Kraft takeover of Cadbury could mean some of our favourite Kiwi sweets get the axe.

Business pundits are saying Kraft will be looking for improvements in profitability and productivity so Cadbury's uniquely Kiwi products — including Moro Bars, Pebbles, Perky Nanas, Snowballs, Eskimos, Jet Planes, Marshmallow Eggs and Fruit Bursts — could be under threat.

Otago University senior marketing lecturer Dr Ben Wooliscroft told the New Zealand Herald that people had a strong relationship with their favourite treats, which would potentially be jeopardised.

"These products are a part of us, part of our culture. They belong to us as much as the company,” he said.

It is feared the Cadbury factory in Dunedin could also close.

A spokesman for Cadbury New Zealand told media it was business as usual.

However he was unable to say for sure what would happen when Kraft took over.

The Cadbury board yesterday accepted a US$19.6 billion (NZ$26.6 billion) takeover bid from the American giant Kraft Foods — however other multi-national confectioners have until next week to outbid Kraft.

Once the takeover has been completed it will create the world's largest confectionary group.

Will it be a national tragedy if Eskimos and Jet Planes disappear off our shelves? Have your say below.

Yes it would be a tragedy if they got rid of eskimos and jet planes or any of the confectionary items mentioned above. Leave them as they are!!!!
As a Kiwi living in Oz, my one delight is going back home and enjoying my favourite sweets, moro bars (ozzies just can't duplicate them here) eskimos, jet planes, pebbles and marshmallow eggs (again uniquely NZ). When I return to oz I bring an enormous supply of sweets back to keep me going until my next visit. The customs men seem to know that all kiwis returning to oz usually bring the sweets back with them. What would we do without them. It's a kiwi tradition, please whatever you do don't axe them, think of all ex pat kiwis who buy up large. It would reduce the turnover of the company enormously. Tradition is important, it gives us identity.
COME ON NEW ZEALAND WE STILL HAVE PEANUT SLABS AND WHITTAKERS AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE ARE THEY?
Bloody aussies want to tak everything from us, why dont they just make up there own lollies and get over it. Perky nanas, jet planes, and fruit bursts i eat at least once a week.
The thought of loseing our individual chocolates saddens me. these are treats that NZs grew up with, i think we should get a say in wot happens. Also losing our factory would be a great loss to all of NZ havent we had enough job losses
Gee all kiwi kids were bought up on these lollies. Especially Eskimos for smaller children. How sad as all the other sweets are all hard and do not taste the same. Well I suppose the kids teeth will be better off without them. What about all the jobs that will be lost as they will in the end. No one in NZ will have jobs soon.
Another NZ Company under the knife from USA. Is this their payback for us being Nuclear Free.
Dont sell cadbury! Kraft are one of the worst slave labor company's out there. absolutely no fair trade at all. And yes, keep the jetplanes and eskimos!!!!
I thought the threat of Cadbury moving to China was bad enaough I would hav given up eating any of their products for that reason alone but now letting us be taken over by someone who will completely take away our individuality. I guess we might all just aq well move to China. You can't tell me it makes no difference because it does and who's to say the Americans will be any better. Your sincerely Joybell
But if Perky nana's disapear - I may just cry
